hey friends,
I'm Erin. I am a mixed media artist living and working on the outskirts of Chapel Hill, NC. I received my degree in art from Auburn University and taught art until my second child arrived. I returned to making art as we launched our first kiddo to college. During this time, I solidified one of my core beliefs that community/connection is key to our health. I believe that art helps us connect to the world around us and more importantly, to ourselves. Art gives us both the opportunity and the permission to feel. It can inspire us, challenge us, and help us build community.

My work has been inspired by both the chaos of home life and a longing for serenity, which I find within Scandinavian design. I am drawn to the architectural forms and the simplicity of the individual structures. As time has passed, and my home life has become less chaotic, my focus has turned towards interior spaces, and those moments of joy and beauty found in the mundane. Through my art, I am able to explore the shared human connection to Home and all of its complexities.

My paintings contain bold elements that are tempered by delicate lines and transparent colors. This balance is a visual echo of the quiet moments carved out within the frenzy of daily life. I paint on cradled wood panels with acrylic paint and collage elements. I work intuitively, building layers and creating a rich visual history until the piece begins to take form. I focus on the composition, while preserving some of the marks, scrapes, drips, brushstrokes and texture that was built over the life of the piece. My work is often inspired by emotion and my personal experiences.
